Hoodia

What is Hoodia ?
The heralded south African cactus featured on "60 Minutes", "The Today Show", and in Oprah's "O Magazine" is probably the new miracle supplement for safe, effective weight loss for everyone wanting to lose weight.Hoodia gordonii (Hoodia) is an all-natural appetite suppressant known for having no side effects or conflicts that are associated with other weight-loss products.

How Hoodia Works.
It essentially suppresses the appetite by tricking the brain into thinking that you're full when you're not: Scientists explain that the active ingredient in Hoodia works within the hypothalamus, the satiety center of the brain, by releasing a chemical compound similar to glucose, only much stronger. The hypothalamus receives this signal as an indication that enough food has been consumed and therefore suppresses the appetite.

AGE AND BEHAVIOR: LEARNING AND PERFORMANCE - TASK MEANINGFULNESS -FAMILIARITY OF THE TASK - SENSELESS AND SENSEFUL STIMULI – THE EXPERIMENT BY CRAIK AND MASANI

In one of the experiments, Craik and Masani varied task meaningfulness by manipulating "the degree of contextual constraint between words." They presented five lists of words to be learned, each list different in its approximation to standard English. List 1 was of words randomly chosen; list 5 was of meaningful text, and lists 2, 3, and 4 were in between. The prediction was that aged people will be relatively disadvantaged as the list becomes more meaningful (list 5). While both young and old performed better with the meaningful lists than with meaningless ones, the difference between age groups was largest with the meaningful material. Further analysis, however, showed that this result was seen mostly with people of less than superior verbal facility. They had difficulty in semantic memory.
Taken all together, the studies give credence to the notion that, to the extent that material is meaningful and can be organized for learning and retention, the older person (while doing better than with nonsense material) will show up less well than younger persons. As seen here and as will be seen in the next chapter, this appears especially true for older people of lower level verbal facility. However, also seen here was quite an opposite role for task meaningfulness in relation to adult aging. When meaningfulness is defined in terms of associative strength and in terms of personal relevance, older people do relatively well. The role of task meaningfulness, therefore, is seen as multidimensional and complex, and generalizations in regard to aging must be referred to the specific situation or class of situations. Perhaps it must be specific to the extent that the information to be learned can be processed.
